El Corrido del Sr. Calabaza

letra por Alejandro Carreño al son de
“El Corrrido del Caballo Blanco” de José Alfredo Jiménez

Este es el corrido del Señor Calabaza           This is the corrido of Sr. Calabaza
Que en un día domingo feliz arrancara              Who one happy Sunday departed
Iba con la mira de llegar al norte                          With sights set on reaching the North
Habiendo salido desde tierras Mayas                       After having set off from Mayan lands

Su noble jinete                                               His noble rider
Le arregló el motor                                             Fixed the engine
Le cambio sillones y                                               Changed the seats
Salió a toda marcha                                                    And they set out

Cruzó como rayo (70kph)                         Like lightning (about 45 mph) he bolted
Tierras Tabasqueñas                                        Across Tabasquen grounds
Entre cerros verdes                                               Between green hills and
y lo azul del cielo                                                        The blue, blue sky

A paso más lento                                       At a much slower pace
Llegó a Cuernavaca                                           He made it to Cuernavaca
Pues ya por Maltrata                                               As over the Maltrata pass
Se andaba quedando                                                     He nearly came to a halt

Cuentan que en Celaya                                They say in Celaya
Ya se iba parando                                             He almost had to give up
Que llevaba todos                                                 That all of his brakes were
Los frenos chorreando                                               spilling to and fro

Pero lo miraron                                           But they saw him go on
Por Guadalajara y                                             To Guadalajara and there
Manos Tapatias                                                    Tapatian hands
Le dieron su ajustada                                                 Gave him an adjustment

Dicen que chorreaba                                    They say he was leaking
Del tambor derecho                                          From his right drum
Y a pesar de todo                                                And despite it all
Siguió su aventura...                                               He continued his adventure...

Llegó hasta Tequila,                                     He made it to Tequila,
Siguió a Nayarit;                                             And then came Nayarit,
Y rumbo a Mazatlan                                          On the way to Mazatlan
Se le rompió un balero (o dos)                              He broke a bearing (or two)

Subió paso a paso                                        He continued inch by inch
Hasta Acaponeta                                           Until Acaponeta
Pudiendo llegar                                              Where he arrived
Con la luz del día                                             Just as the sun set

Cumplida su hazaña                                      His daring deed fulfilled
Se fue pa' Hermosillo                                      He headed toward Hermosillo
Y ya no paró                                                      And didn’t stop
Hasta Puerto Peñasco                                        Until Puerto Peñasco

Y este fue el corrido                                      And this was the corrido
Del Señor Calabaza                                         Of Sr. Calabaza
Que salió un domingo                                       Who one Sunday
Desde tierras Mayas.                                            Set off from Mayan lands
